We’re Working to make Metro Jackson great!
Mississippi Media doesn’t just cover our communities; we are part of them. That’s why we believe the role of Mississippi Media involves more than reporting the news. From raising funds that help at-risk children and families to sponsoring local events, our commitment is to improve areas where we live and work. In 2013, Mississippi Media has worked with 50 different local organizations to support fundraising efforts aimed at making Metro Jackson a better place to live and work.
Backed by support from its parent company, Gannett, Mississippi Media annually provides thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of volunteer time to assist needy families and nonprofit organizations through two main channels:
Gannett Foundation: A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett, the Gannett Foundation supports non-profit activities in Metro Jackson and in other communities that Gannett does business. In 2012 the Gannett Foundation made grants and matching employee donations to non-profits for a total of $6.9 million.
Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett’s USA WEEKEND and its carrier newspapers, including The Clarion-Ledger. Each year nearly 100 Mississippi Media employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need.
